I believe that to excel in professional work, it’s essential to continually experiment and challenge yourself in your spare time. I love having my camera in hand and letting inspiration guide me. The photos in this gallery include self-portraits and abstract experiments. Enjoy the journey as you explore a glimpse into the inner workings of my mind.

Creative Photography Exercises

My friend Serena and I decided to start a photography challenge. Each week, we base our exercises on a photography book she received some time ago. The book features creative prompts from established photographers and their thoughts on the craft. We flick through its pages, choose one at random, and adapt the prompt into a personalised challenge. The goal is to keep each other accountable and ensure we create something every week.

Self portraits

Inspired by some of my favourite photographers, I set out to find time each month to take self-portraits. I reflect on the dominant feelings of the month and plan my shoots around those emotions. Sometimes, inspiration comes naturally, and I pick up my camera on a whim to try something new. Other times, I have to push myself to create, even when I feel uninspired.

A lecturer at my university once said that if we create even in moments of low inspiration, we eventually look back at the work and realise we can’t distinguish it from the projects created when we felt highly creative. I’ve found this to be true. The key is to exercise the artistic muscle and persevere.
